About

Celebrating over 20 years of excellence in design service!

Founder, Brad McKinney, began a freelance practice after accepting a position on the Art + Design faculty at Anderson University (Anderson, IN) in 2000. His continued professional practice remained a critical compoment of keeping industry expertise while educating new generations of designers. The freelance practice continued to flourish and in 2002, McKinney incorprated ellojeo.

In that same year, McKinney began a master's degree in Architectural Design to better understand design for virtual environments by designing for physical environments. Upon completing those studies, McKinney expanded ellojeo's design services to include architectural design. Today, ellojeo strives to contribute design excellence twoards the business goals of clients large and small through print communication packages to digital experiences to designed environments.

Some of the clients ellojeo has proudly served include: Butler University (Office of the Provost, Center for Global Education), Lilly (President's Council), Strategyworx, SDG International, Closet Concepts, and Anderson University. Several clients in the music industry include acts such as A.M. Drive, AutoVaughn, and The Here Now.

We frequently get asked, "Why the name ellojeo?"

"Sound Thinking" is more than a tag line. It is a double entendre offering a clue to our puzzling name, as well as a description of the kind of work ellojeo conducts on behalf of its clients! A phonetic spelling of "logo" (L-O-G-O), the name is what it says. It means nothing more than affirming what the name is itself...that, of course, being the word "logo." Similarly, the logomark for ellojeo is a form rich with brand properties, but without invested meaning. It is a mark that functions as a proper brand should...visually dynamic and memorable. However, it carries no further meaning other than standing for the word, "ellojeo."

LOGO is an abrreviation of the Acient Greek term λόγος, or the romanized, logos, which translates to 'spoken word or reason.' A certain famous book begins, "In the beginning was the [spoken word or reason]." L-O-G-O, then, can be considered a source of creativity. Wenell Berry notes in his poem, Healing, that "To be creative is only to have health: to keep oneself fully alive in the Creation, to keep the Creation fully alive in oneself, to see the Creation anew, to welcome one’s part in it anew. The most creative works are all strategies of this health." (For a primer on logos, we recommend a review of this Wikipedia article that points to rich resources of rhetoric regarding the term.)
